Dr. Svenja Resto joined Executive Pediatrics in May 2014. She is delighted to be part of a practice with a personal approach to its patients and families. She feels right at home. She completed her pediatric residency at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital residency in 2008 and is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is fluent in German and conversant in Spanish.
Dr. Resto was raised in Cologne, Germany; she moved to the United States when she was 17 years old. She completed a year in Oklahoma as a foreign exchange student with the Fulbright organization. Afterward she completed her German and American high school diplomas from the White Plains-based German School of New York. She completed her B.S. degree at Tufts University in three years, where she majored in biology and community health. After graduation, she decided to work at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as a laboratory research assistant. Based on her work at Sloan, she co-authored several published scientific papers under her maiden name Lahrs. She then enrolled at Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Medicine in Canada, receiving her M.D. degree in 2005. There she was awarded the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Award. Her first experience as a pediatrician was in a private practice in Connecticut until she decided to join Executive Pediatrics in 2014, closer to her home in Westchester where she resides with her family.
During her years as a pediatrician, she has volunteered in Mommy and Me groups, and held lectures in schools, churches, and community organizations. She has taught medical students in her current practice and has appeared on local cable news broadcast television as well as featured in Serendipity Magazine medical advice columns.
