Professional History

Dr. Pushpa Viswanathan is a resolute physician with over 20 years of experience in Pediatric Endocrinology. She joins as the chief of the Department of Endocrinology at Boston Children Health Physicians. Originally from a coastal town in Kerala, India, Dr. Viswanathan obtained her medical degree with honors from Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr. Viswanathan began her medical career with a residency training at Westchester Medical Center/New York Medical College. After 25 years, returning to Westchester Medical Center, which she considers a homecoming. After residency, she moved to Pennsylvania, where she worked in Pediatric primary care before pursuing her subspeciality fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Pittsburgh. During her time at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, she earned accolades for her quality and patient- centered care. She established a multidisciplinary thyroid clinic and developed satellite clinics, earning her the chairman’s award. She has been an advocate for improving provider wellness in health care field. In this regard, she was a certified peer coach at her previous institution.

Dr. Viswanathan’s clinical practice includes managing endocrine conditions and diabetes in children with special interest in thyroid diseases. Her clinical research focuses on Type 1 diabetes mellitus, thyroid nodules, and Pediatric Thyroid Cancer. She has actively contributed to national Pediatric societies, including Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES), where she serves in practice management and QI committee, American academy of Pediatrics, and American Board of Pediatrics. Additionally, she was part of the standard-setting panel for the Pediatric Endocrine board exam. Dr. Viswanathan was in the writing committee for American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), American head and neck society (AHNS) clinical disease state review on pediatric thyroid surgery.

Her move to Westchester County brings her closer to her sons, who are studying at Yale College in New Haven, CT. Dr. Viswanathan is a polyglot, proficient in over five languages, including an ancient language, Sanskrit. Her passion lies in building lasting bonds with her patients and ensuring their health and well-being.
