Dr. Schaefer is an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics and Medicine, specializing in the field of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant at Westchester Medical Center (WMC), Boston Children’s Health Physician’s (BCHP), and New York Medical College (NYMC).
Dr. Schaefer is originally from Israel, where he attended the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, and completed his Bachelor of Medical Science and later his Medical Doctor Degree. Later, he completed his pediatrics residency at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Israel.
At that point, he was drawn to the US's strong healthcare system and research opportunities and relocated with his wife and 3 children to NY for a Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation fellowship at Westchester Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Cairo.
During his fellowship, he specialized in the translational research of acquired severe aplastic anemia (aSAA), recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), and other hyperinflammatory conditions. He has presented at many national meetings. He is also, actively involved in clinical research through both investigators-initiated clinical trials and COG protocols.
