Professional History

Dr. Dmitry Samsonov is a board-certified pediatric nephrologist. Dr. Samsonov completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Ein-Kerem Hadassah University Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel and at University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY.

Dr. Samsonov underwent fellowship training in pediatric nephrology at Children’s Hospital, Boston, including an additional year of a pediatric kidney transplant fellowship. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Samsonov worked for two years in Russia creating a pediatric kidney transplantation program, focusing on the youngest recipients. Today the program is successfully performing kidney transplantation in all children of various ages.

Prior to joining Boston Children’s Health Physicians, Dr. Samsonov had been working as a pediatric nephrologist at Schneider Medical Center for Children, Petach Tikvah, Israel – the largest pediatric hospital in Israel, with an active dialysis and transplantation program.

Dr. Samsonov is actively engaged in several research projects including new therapies of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome, kidney stones, chronic renal insufficiency and telemedicine. He is a co-investigator of the multi-center CKiD (Chronic Kidney Diseases in Children) study. Dr. Samsonov is actively involved in the teaching of medical students and residents and serves as the core teaching faculty for pediatric nephrology. Dr. Samsonov’s chapter “Abnormalities in Magnesium Metabolism” was recently published in the textbook “Pediatric Nephrology in the ICU” Springer.
