Amy Jean

Dr. Amy Jean is a Board-certified pediatric endocrinologist with nearly two decades of experience caring for children and adolescents with diabetes, growth disorders, and other hormone-related conditions. 

She earned her medical degree from Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, completed her pediatric residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and completed her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Columbia University Medical Center. 

Before joining BCHP, Dr. Jean practiced with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. During her time there, she helped expand access to pediatric subspecialty care by establishing and providing services at outreach clinics in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. She has also held academic appointments at the University of Pittsburgh, West Virginia University, and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Her commitment to compassionate, family-centered care has been recognized twice with UPMC’s Excellence in Patient Experience Award. 

Dr. Jean is especially passionate about helping children and families affected by type 1 diabetes thrive in every part of life. She enjoys partnering with families to make the most of today’s rapidly advancing diabetes technology. She believes strongly that connection and community are essential to living well with diabetes and advocates for diabetes walks, diabetes camps, and supportive online communities for children, teens, and their families. She has previously served as Medical Director of an American Diabetes Association camp for children with diabetes in Pennsylvania. 

Outside of medicine, Dr. Jean is active in her church and local community and serves as a school trustee. She also loves spending time with her husband, 3 boys and her COVID-era rescue dogs, playing violin in her community orchestra, hiking and exploring new parks, and playing tennis.
