Professional History

Olga Markumas-Viera, LMHC-D, is a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor who provides therapy in both English and Spanish. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Manhattan College and has more than 12 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Olga is passionate about creating a warm, supportive, and welcoming space where clients feel comfortable being themselves and talking openly about the challenges they are facing. She has experience supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral concerns, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, self-esteem, family challenges, and significant life transitions.

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in a Dominican household, Olga brings a strong understanding of the ways culture, family, identity, and life experiences can influence emotional well-being. She particularly enjoys supporting clients navigating issues related to identity and self-esteem, immigration, cultural adjustment, and connection. She values providing culturally responsive care and helping individuals and families feel understood and supported throughout the therapeutic process.

Olga’s therapeutic approach is individualized to each client and may incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), play therapy, family systems approaches, psychodynamic therapy, and motivational interviewing. She believes there is no single approach that works for everyone and focuses on building a trusting therapeutic relationship first. From there, she works collaboratively with clients to identify their goals, build on their strengths, develop new coping skills, and create meaningful change.

Olga especially enjoys working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families, including college students and young adults navigating the transition into the workforce. She also enjoys working with adults across the lifespan. Whether a client is facing a specific challenge or simply feeling overwhelmed by a period of change, Olga strives to help them feel supported, understood, and better equipped to move forward.
